About Bing

Bing is the latest remake of Microsoft's search engine. Since letdown live.com was closed, people start talking about the new search engine.

Right now it's hard to say if Microsoft will have greater success with Bing and will attack Google successfully. Google holds 95% of the search market in Germany for example and Microsoft is really keen on claiming its share of this high profit market in Europe.

Optimizing Website for Bing

Many of the SEO experienced webmasters are asking for information about how to optimize their websites for Bing. Same for me, and I made some first obversations I'd like to share with you.

Given a site has a good bunch of external links pointing to it, most important ranking factors of Bing are:

• Keywords in the URL are most important. It's very hard to get a good ranking without that. Much more important than when optimizing for Google! It even doesn't matter if the keywords are part of the domain or parameters.
• Keywords in the title are similar important like the URL keywords.
• Keywords of incoming links are very important.
• The top level domain (TLD) is taken into account when applying the region filter. So when searching in the US, .com domains will rank better than .co.uk.

On the other hand, least important ranking factors are:

• Keywords of internal links. Internal links still define how strong a specific page of the site is, but the keywords provided as a link text are nearly of no weight!
• The content: Actually it seems less content is better! And this is valid for the title and the URL, too. So if doing a Bing SEO you should spread the content over several pages.

These are my first impressions of how to optimize for Bing. Please note that SEO depends on so many differnent factors. Although keeping the above rules in mind will help you to improve your Bing ranking, it's always the mix that leads to success.
